The Cisco 8800-RP is the route processor for the Cisco 8800 Series modular routers. It delivers the central control and management plane functions to operate the chassis, line cards, and switch fabric. The 8800-RP runs the IOS XR network operating system to provide advanced routing, automation, and programmability.
The Cisco 8800-RP utilizes an Intel Broadwell 4-core 2.4 GHz CPU and 32GB of DRAM to provide high performance routing. It has a 10GbE SFP+ port for control plane expansion along with 1GbE management, console, USB, and timing ports.
The 8800 Series uses two redundant RPs to ensure maximum availability. If one RP fails, the other provides a hitless transition that maintains routing protocols and the forwarding plane. The 8800-RP is hot swappable to allow replacement without any downtime.
